The head of Aston Martin Mike Krak said how his team differs from Alpin.
In particular, Krak mentioned the plan of the French team, according to which the path to the fight for the title will take 100 Grand Prix. This assumption was made by Alpin CEO Laurent Rossi in 2021 and team leader Otmar Szafnauer in 2022.
From the 2023 season, ex-pilot Alpin Fernando Alonso will drive for Aston Martin.
- Good start (laughs). Better ask Fernando.
The green team stands out because we`re expanding and we`re serious about it. These are not just words: we are building a new base, a new wind tunnel, we signed a lot of very good specialists. It needs to be made to work, but the potential of the project is absolutely real.
- Because we are more serious, our ambitions are credible. No one on the grid went for such an investment. Teams say: yes, we will win in three years, after 100 races, but what are they doing to win?
Base, wind tunnel, new simulators - everything is serious with us, huge funds have been invested. That`s why Fernando decided so quickly. We didn`t even have to convince him - he already understood. He has contacts everywhere. The team is reliable, and we do not just talk, but act.
- I would like to avoid it. But even when concluding an agreement with Fernando, we did not use big words. We never said that we would win, that we would become world champions. We are trying to make progress and we want to be in the fight in a few years, but we have never claimed that signing Fernando will allow us to win. It would surprise me if we were perceived as a team that only talks about victories - we do not behave like that.
