The Australian Open is guaranteed to have a semi-finalist from outside the top 20. This will happen because there are no representatives of the top twenty left in the lower quarter of the bracket.
In the third round they will meet:
113 Alexey Popyrin and 89 Ben Shelton;
67 JJ Wolf and 107 Michael Mmo;
35 Tommy Paul and 39 Jenson Brooksby.
The remaining two places in the third round will be played against each other today:
66 Andy Murray and 159 Thanasi Kokkinakis;
215 Brandon Holt and 25 Roberto Bautista Agut.
