Sport prediction $765 million over 15 years for Dominican baseball player Juan Soto - a record contract in sports history
Sport tips blog
Dominican baseball player Juan Soto signed the largest contract in the history of sports. The Major League Baseball (MLB) New York Mets will pay the outfielder $765 million over 15 years.
Soto`s contract calls for an average annual payout of $51 million with no deferments. The agreement also includes a termination clause after the 2029 season.
It is reported that the Mets could rescind Soto`s waiver by increasing his annual salary from $51 million to $55 million for the remaining 10 years of his contract. If this happens, the total value of the contract will exceed $800 million.
The contract makes Soto not only the highest paid player in MLB history, but also the highest paid athlete in all professional sports.
Soto`s deal surpasses the previous record set by Japan`s Shohei Ohtani, who signed a 10-year, $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers last year.
Juan Soto has been in the MLB since 2018. The Dominican spent last season with the Yankees, with whom they reached the World Series, where New York was defeated by the Dodgers.
