Alex Mickelsen shared his conclusions from his first full season on tour. Now the 20-year-old American is the 41st racket in the world. - What did you understand about the tour this year?
- The tour is merciless. You lose every week. I haven`t won a single tournament prediction by paid sport predictions this year. In the final in Newport I had a match point, but my opponent served an ace. It`s been a good week.
Last year I won a lot, since I rose from 600th place to 97th. I won a lot of matches on Futures and Challengers. Even if you don`t win every tournament, you still win a ton of matches.
And this year, probably, the result is 50/50. I have approximately the same number of victories and defeats (31:29 - Sports``). It`s psychologically difficult to go through all this for the first time. And as stupid as it may sound, I think you have to learn to lose because it will happen all the time.
Everyone is playing at a good level. In the top 100, anyone can beat anyone on any given day. And for that matter, there are no guarantees in tennis. It`s hard here. And this is the main thing that I understood. And definitely the importance of patience. Be patient while waiting for results. Be patient during matches.
I think I have grown a lot this year. It was a great first year. I gained a lot of useful experience. Things are going well. I reached my goal and climbed into the top 50. So I`m happy.
